Phoebe Welcome Leon group of Wizo has been active in the Wembley area for the past 40 years.  Many firm and long friendships have been formed whilst the members and their friends hold interesting functions and raise money for Wizo’s work in Israel.

The group particularly sponsor a Day Care Centre in the Katamon area of Jerusalem, in the midst of a very deprived area.  The Day Centre ensures that the children have a warm, loving environment, in which to play and learn, in spite of the fact that their home lives are often very difficult.  Over the years the PWL group have covered the central play area (it is very cold and often wet in Jerusalem during the winter) renovated the kitchen, and sponsored new equipment for the outside play area.  This is in addition to the regular amounts that pay for the day to day running of the centre, which is in association with the local municipality and social services.  The centre also cares for a group of children who are especially ‘at risk’ with a longer day, and with help given to the parents and other members of the family.  We are very proud of our centre, and happy to continue our support.
